Clean fuel. Clean air. Clean cities. These are the goals that the Chicago Area Clean Cities (CACC) Coalition has been working toward since 1994. Here's a current list of incentives for zero-emission and low-emission vehicles available to commercial fleet operators in Illinois for 2024:
Illinois Electric Vehicle Rebate Program: Illinois offers a $4,000 rebate for the purchase of new or used all-electric vehicles, excluding electric motorcycles, which are eligible for a $1,500 rebate. This initiative prioritizes low-income applicants, with applications accepted within specific periods based on funding availability.
IEPA Grant for Transportation Electrification: The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency supports medium to heavy-duty vehicle charging, public transit, and fleet electrification. Specific grants focus on various aspects of EV infrastructure and operations.
Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund: Managed by the Illinois EPA, this fund dedicates approximately $108 million to reduce diesel emissions, including funding for electric school buses and public transit vehicles.
Diesel Emission Reduction Act (DERA) Program: Provides funding to replace or upgrade diesel vehicles, with assistance available from the American Lung Association for eligible Illinois fleets.
USDA Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program: Offers grants to increase the use of biofuels derived from U.S. agricultural products, with a focus on expanding the infrastructure necessary to support higher blend renewable fuels.
EPA Clean School Bus Program: Provides rebates and grants for replacing existing school buses with zero-emission and low-emission models. The program also offers resources for technical assistance, educational materials, and workforce training.
Federal Tax Credits for Fleet Vehicles: Fleet operators may receive between $7,500 and $40,000 in federal tax credits for purchasing eligible vehicles, with additional credits up to $100,000 for installing charging equipment.
These incentives are part of Illinois' broader strategy to promote the use of environmentally friendly vehicles and reduce emissions. Commercial fleet operators are encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to support their transition to cleaner transportation options.
